Thread starter gnd Start date Jun 23, Joined Jan 24, Messages Hi all. I'm wondering, for console channel, how much DC offset is too much? Is few milivolts ok to go without cap? I've been playing arround with one channel, and got idea to remove some caps between opamp stages. It seems I could just throw them all out, and still stay within few milivolts offset. Am I asking for trouble, or is it ok to kick those cheap suckers out?

I was mixing a band and sent it to WaveLab and analyzing one track it detected 0.
I know this may seem really stupid as it is a stupid question but at what percentage is it "worriable"? Thanks, all. I can't really speak to how common or not a problem DC offset can be, though it does seem to be an issue for me.
And no clue how cheap or not the transformers in my Quicksilver and ModWright components are. They're well-respected builders, so I'm guessing they didn't cheap out. Like brubacca I seem to have crummy power in my place, so going to look into another CMX-2 or AVA Humdinger, maybe some other power conditioning units.
It seems that there's little possibility of damaging components with my crappy household power, but I'm exercising some caution the more I have invested in these units.

My concern was whether--and it seems unlikely--crappy power in my apt building is doing any lasting damage to those saturating transformers and any other parts of the audio chain. This was also a general question about ways to clean up that DC on the mains, and I think I've gotten some good suggestions.

Bill Ferris likes this. Just take it easy. Do it when you want to do it. I'm sure if you leave it alone, you won't relax and listen to it. You'll be thinking about those mV all the time.
Anything over 50mv can harm your speakers. I would not hook up any speakers I cared about to mv of DC offset. Messages: 6, Location: The Great Midwest. KentTeffeteller and Bill Ferris like this. You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content.
