It returned to the lab in BW In BW , Swadloon evolved into a Leavanny during a battle against Iris's Emolga and as a result started to make clothes and headgears out of leaves for Pikachu and the other Pokemon, which they like. Ash caught Palpitoad in BW It was the leader of a crew which was held by some Tympole. It was used again during the Tournament, this time against a Trainer 's Darumaka which was easily defeated by a strong Hydro Pump.
After an intense battle with Ash's Tepig , Ash captured it. Roggenrola evolved into Boldore while fighting Clay's Excadrill. Boldore is shown to be very resourceful, like using Sandstorm to put out a fire. It was set to reappear in BW It reappeared in the end of BW , and officially joined Ash's team in the episode after that.
It evolved into Krookodile in BW Since then it became a vital part of Ash's team and won many gym and league battles for Ash. Bulbasaur has been given the choice to evolve but decided to stay at its base form. It also appears to have a budding romance with May's Bulbasaur. However it has not seen much experience outside of those leagues.
While being there it grew incredibly affectionate and is known to hug Professor Oak on many occasions. However, past this affectionate yet slimy exterior, Muk has been used in several League battles and manages to hold its ground. However Ash has used one of the Tauros on several occasions in Leagues and Frontier battles. Captured in the Orange Islands when stealing all the fruit from a small Island range, Snorlax has become a major powerhouse of Ash's, when it is awake that is.
Also, Snorlax had defeated a Medicham, even at a Fighting disadvantage. It loves tree sap and has been known to suck the pollen out of Bulbasaur's Bulb on several occasions. After evolving from Chikorita, Bayleef kept it's longing feelings for Ash which did end up getting it in trouble on several occasions.
Ash left it at Oak's when he decided to make a fresh start when he left for Hoenn. However, Team Rocket tried to cause problems and Cyndaquil evolved in order to stop them. Totodile was captured by Ash using his Lure Ball. Since Misty also wanted it, they decided to battle in order to determine who's it was. Ash won. Totodile has a quirky personality and really likes to dance.
It has even been known to use this dancing tactic to help win battles. Ever since it evolved, it has become a powerhouse in Ash's team winning many Frontier Battles. It now resides back in Oak's Lab during Ash's journey to Sinnoh.
Swellow was left at Oak's Lab when Ash left for his journey to Sinnoh. But Ash used Swellow, one more time, in the Sinnoh League. After evolving from Grovyle to defend it's love interest, it lost all ability to use attacks.
Corphish was captured while terrorizing Dewford Island and its inhabitants. However once caught Corphish managed to tame it's terrorizing attitude and become a vitally used member of Ash's team.
Torkoal hasn't been in many gym battles but is used in standard battles on many occasions and proves it's strength in those battles. Glalie was newly evolved when Ash entered the Hoenn League. Convinced of its power Ash used it in a number of battles where it managed to hold its own successfully. After the league was over he decided to give it a break at Oak's Laboratory. As it has evolved, it is likely to become one of the powerhouses of Ash's team and will still likely be used for long-distance searching.
With it's bigger size and strength, as soon as it evolved, it learned the move Close Combat, which will be helpful for many close flying battles. After being used in a gym battle against Volkner, which got postponed, Ash's Grotle evolved during a battle with Team Rocket. With these attacks at its disposal, it is sure to be a massive tank in Ash's team.
After being knocked to the brink of fainting in a battle against Barry's Empoleon, Monferno went berserk with its Blaze Ability and unleashed its full power against Team Rocket.
Infernape has many powerful attacks at its disposal such as Flame Wheel and Flare Blitz so it's set to be the powerhouse behind Ash's team. It was later used in a battle against Flint's Infernape, but lost due to its lack of experience. Now, Buizel is one of Ash's powerhouses with powerful moves such as Aqua Jet at its disposal.
Buizel will likely be called upon often for battles. Ash assisted Gible in the learning of the move and Gible decided to follow Ash. It also has the habit of biting on to heads. Later on, Ash noticed Gible followed him and eventually captured it. Also, Did Ash actually beat Misty? Why does Brock go with Ash? Tags: what does the cascade badge do. However, he obtains several in unorthodox ways and only truly defeats some of the Gym Leaders. So, let's take a trip down memory lane and examine how Ash fares against the eight original Gym Leaders!
Pikachu's electric attacks have no effect on Brock's Onix, causing Ash to forfeit before Pikachu is seriously harmed. Ash really didn't have much hope here, as all his Pokemon at this point are weak against Rock and Ground types. Battle 2: Ash soon rechallenges the Gym after supercharging Pikachu at the local hydro-electric plant is that cheating? Ash's Pidgeotto can't harm Brock's Geodude, but Pikachu beats it with its new power.
Onix again battles Pikachu, and ends up losing, if only because the sprinkler system activated, weakening the Rock Pokemon. Ash did technically triumph against Brock, but only after supercharging Pikachu and being fortunate with the sprinklers.
Credit for not giving up despite having type disadvantages, but luck more than skill determined the victory. Not only that, they want to give him the badge without battling, as they dislike matches. This irritates both Ash and Misty, and Misty decides to face Ash for her siblings. In a 2-on-2 match, Ash gains the upper hand, even without using Pikachu, who was reluctant to battle an ally like Misty.
Team Rocket interrupts the contest and it's never concluded, but Ash earns the badge anyways. As Misty's sisters mention, he had a solid lead and almost certainly would have won had Pikachu fought Misty's Water Pokemon.
Not quite an official win, but close enough. Nice job, Ash. Surge, a rather demeaning and arrogant Trainer, who sends out Pikachu's evolved form Raichu. Pikachu tries to match Raichu blow-for-blow, but cannot withstand its greater power and loses handily. Battle 2: Despite Ash's loss, he and Brock correctly deduce that Surge's Raichu evolved too quickly without properly developing speed in the Pikachu stage.
Thus, Ash rechallenges Surge, again pitting Pikachu against Raichu. This time, Ash and Pikachu outmaneuver Raichu rather than face it head-on, and successfully defeat the rodent.
This causes Ash to forfeit, but it's clear that Brock should have been the one to forfeit, given that his own Pokemon was in pain and had visibly lost already before this had happened. Ash receives the badge out of goodwill as Brock joins his journey, seeming more like Brock finding an excuse to leave his job and let his family take over the gym. It might seem like a common stereotype for Ash to get badges for beating Team Rocket, but Cerulean City is the only place where this really happened in proper fashion.
While losing to Misty's sisters Lily, Daisy, and Violet, his win against Team Rocket and saving the gym convinced them to give him the badge anyway.
This isn't to say his badge was unearned, but it definitely should have been followed by a battle. Most other times where Ash saves a gym, he will still have to win a battle afterward to prove his skill in a more focused space. This just seems like a way to get him and the troubles that follow him out of Cerulean City. Not only did Ash fail to beat the Grass-type expert Erika for her badge in Kanto, he wasn't even allowed in the Gym initially. He needed Team Rocket's help to dress as a girl just to enter this gym, and was quickly disqualified when the truth came out.
That said, Erika couldn't hold a grudge after he saved her pungent Gloom from a fire started by Team Rocket, and this act of heroism is hardly the worst reason to receive a badge.
